Elephant Bathing Pool
| one of the eight famous temples in Mt. Emei. Elephant Bathing Pool, located in Zhuantian Slope at an altitude of 2070m£¬is really a good place for watching the moon in Mt. Emei. It belongs to the traditional scenic spots and is called ¡°Night Moon over Elephant Bathing Pool¡±¡£In Ming Dynasty, it was a pavilion called ¡°Chuxi Pavilion¡± and then reconstructed into a nunnery called ¡°Chuxi Nunnery¡±. In the period governed by Emperor Kangxi in Qing Dynasty (year 1699 A.D.), the nunnery was built into a temple, and Monk Yuezheng reconstructed it in the period governed by Emperor Qianlong (year 1736 A.D.). There is a small pool in front of the temple; it is said that Samantabhadra Bodhisattva riding his elephant passed here and the white elephant had a bath in the pool, so this pool was named Elephant Bathing Pool, and the temple was called ¡°Fairy Flower Temple¡±. Now it¡¯s composed of Maitreya Buddha Hall, Grand Hall, Kwan-yin Hall, Confucian classics Study and guest house, etc. |
