Sichuan Charms Africa
Sichuan Performing-Arts Troupe performed in opening ceremony of ¡®Pan-Africa Dance Festival¡¯ (FESPAD) in Rwanda¡¡¡¡Performing troupes from 11 countries and regions participated in the 7th Pan-Africa Dance Festival (FESPAD, 2010) kicked off at 18:45 local time, July 24. Rwandan President Paul Kagame attended the grand opening ceremony and watched the performances in Rwandan National Stadium.¡¡¡¡Sichuan Performing-arts Troupe as the only performing group from Asian countries, carried with it the theme country cultural exchange activity - ¡°Charming Sichuan in Africa¡±.¡¡¡¡When the host announced ¡°China¡± in the opening ceremony, audiences applauded to Sichuan Performing-arts Troupe holding the Five-Flagged Red Flag in Square Four. Rwandan audiences all rose to watch brilliant shows including acrobatics, jujitsu, female characters from Sichuan Opera, Sichuan face changing, etc. ¡¡¡¡The highlight show ¡®Colorful Homeland¡¯ which involves 1,200 young performers from Rwanda was completed with the help from Chinese Ministry of Culture. Luo Kege, graduated from Zhejiang University and general-director of the opening ceremony told the reporter: ¡°The pivot of the opening ceremony is the drums because Africa is the kingdom of drums and drums is the soul of Africa.¡±¡¡¡¡During the performance, over 300 Rwandan drums were beaten at different angles simultaneously to achieve sound effects like sands and stones, wind and thunders and springs and waterfalls¡ these different sounds and rhythms created drums of harmony. Pierre, Luo Kege¡¯s interpreter told the reporter in standard Mandarin, ¡°African friends were all amazed at the performances. They couldn¡¯t imagine that drums could play such beautiful and wonderful music¡¡±¡¡¡¡The opening ceremony lasted six hours and 30 thousand audiences at scene were very much immersed in the music and dance. Performers from Sichuan Performing-arts Troupe were also deeply touched.¡¡¡¡Sichuan Performing-arts Troupe will have two performing sessions on July 25 and 26 at local time.From sc.gov.cn, 27/7/2010 |
