"King Camp" 5th International Hiking Event Numtso Lake Lhasa kicks off
The "King Camp" Fifth Numtso International Hiking Event kicked off on July 25 with hundreds of hiking enthusiasts gathering from home and abroad.

Most of the participants from professional clubs drove their vehicles from Lhasa to Damxung County on July 25th and then got started for the 40-kilometer hiking from Damxung to Numtso Lake on July 26th.

Dorje Cidro, mayor of Lhasa said, "The hiking event can better promote the famous Numtso as a global tourist destination, and further enhance the image of Lhasa as an international tourist city."

Deemed as the "Holy Lake" among Tibetans, Numtso is located at an altitude of 4,718 meters with the area of 1,870 square kilometers and is known as the highest saltwater lake on earth.

"It`s fantastic that we will experience the charm of Tibet by hiking, " said Xiaogang, a hiker in the event.

Meanwhile, all the participants will carry along garbage bags during the entire journey to protect the wonderful environment and advocate the low-carbon lifestyle.

The Numtso International Hiking Event has been successfully held over the past four years since 2006.
