Sichuan-Tibet Highway begins at Chengdu, Sichuan and ends at Lhasa, Tibet. It extends via Ya¡¯an and Kangding to Xinduqiao, where the road becomes crotched. The north way runs via Gantse, Dege, Qamdo to Bamda, where the south way joins in. The road goes on via Baxoi, Ranwu, Bomi, Nyingchi ,covering a distance of 2412km, and finally reaches Lhasa. Drivers prefer the south way because it is shorter ( 2149km ) and its average altitude is lower.
The highway crosses high mountains and huge rivers en route, rough and dangerous, but that the splendid scenery is beheld attracts a lot of people who love outdoor activities, year after year.
Day 1 Chengdu-Rilong-Danba 383km ride to Banba, the ancient Queendom, via Dujiangyan, Wolong Balang Mountain Pass(4520m)and Mt Four Girls.Dujiangyan is located at the mouth of Minjiang River Valley, where there is a wonderful irrigation system in an absolute natural outlook, which has played its funtion for over 2,200 years.Wolong is famous for its the largest panda base in the world while Mt Four Girls takes on a view of perfect blending of snowy peaks, virgin forsets and cristal lakes.Danba is a beautiful place with beautiful Tibetan females.Overnight at Castle Hotel. Day 2 Danba-Bamei-Daofu 147km ride to Daofu, where exquisite folk houses are well-known in the whole Tibet region, via Bamei,where it is worth spending hours there.Khamba, agile and brave, are looking after their cattle on meadows.Daofu or Tawu(in Tibetan) is a small town situated in a narrow basin along the Zhe-chu river. As you approach the town you will see a huge chorten & an immense 10 m-sq pile of mani prayer stones nearby. Nyitso Gompa, is an important Gelukpa Monastery. At an abservation point beyond the gompa you can see the 3 sacred mountains (Rigsum Gompo), to the south over the river.Overnight at a local's house.
Day 3 Daofu-Luhuo-Ganzi 166km ride to Ganzi via Luhuo.Ganze is a small riverside trading town & the largest in the area. On the northern side of the town is the Ganze Gompa spread over a hill commanding a fine view of the snow mountains & Kanze.Driving in Kham area is quite an expereince, natural and ecological, wild and tough.Listen to nomads' eclogue and look at yaks' home.Overnight at hotel. Day 4 Ganzi-Manigange-Xinluhai-Quershan-Dege 207km ride to Dege,another Kham county at the border between Sichuan and Tibet.Dege, is the cultural center of Eastern Tibet. Here the clients of Dreams Travel visit Dege Gonchen Monastery founded in 1448 & belongs to the Sakyapa order of Tibetan Buddhism. Also visit the famous Dege Parkhang where Tibetan Buddhist sutras are printed.The route crosses over high mountains. Quershan(5050m) is a great mountain pass where magnificent scenery is beheld.Dege Religious Printing House is the most famous of this kind all over China. Day 5 Dege-Jiangda-Chamdu 227km ride to Chamdu.Straddling the Mekong river, Chamdo possesses a rich history as one of the earliest centers of the Tibetan plateau and home to Kalden Jampaling, the great monastery founded between 1436-44 and developed through the centuries by successive incarnations. While the original monastery was destroyed in 1912 by the Chinese, it was rebuilt when the Tibetan army seized Chamdo in 1917. We will spend the day stretching our legs, exploring the monastery and shopping in Tromzikhang, an open-air market where colorfully dressed Tibetans pawn their wares and antique goods. Visit Qainagbalin Monastery and Kano Ruins.Overnight at hotel. Day 6 Chamdo-Baxoi 265km ride to Basu.In turn to cross Bamda Grassland, Nujiang Mountain Pass(4839m) and to wriggle down to Nujiang Riverside,experiencing the up-and-down of both altitudes(average 2500m) and temperatures(average 20 degrees) and enjoy terrific beauty of nature. Baxoi means Village at the foot of Warrior Mountain. Overnight at guesthouse
Day7 Basu-Ranwu-Bomi 218km ride to Bomi.Sightseeing of Rawu Lake: Water birds in large number are above inverted reflection of forest, glaciers and snow peaks in bluish green lake water, limpid and flat as a mirror. Bomi , which means ¡°ancestor¡± in Tibet, enjoys a warm and wet climate due to Southwest Monsoon from Indian Occean, thus gains the names of Tibetan Switzerland, Pearl in Green and so on.The road comes to its most beautiful section with standing trees, gliding rills, hovering eagles on the background of snow-capped mountain, quiet lake, village or farming land.Overnight at guesthouse
Day 8 Bomi- Nyingchi 233km ride to Nyingchi.Sightseeing of the spectacularity where Niyang River pours into Yarlungzangbo and overlooking Mt Benri, the holy mountan of Tibetan Local Religion, Mt Namjaqbarwa(7756m). Overnight at guesthouse
Day 9 Nyingchi-Bayi-Gongbujiangda-Lhasa 400km ride to Lhasa.It is exciting to spend hours at Basong Tso (3700m), which hides in virgin forests and is especially canonized by Nyingmpa (Red Sect). The scenery here is beyond praise Overnight at hotel.

3.As we travel in Tibet area where the economy is much more backward than other places, the food choice is limited, so we suggest you take some solid food. Most of local restaurant can only offer the simple Sichuan and Tibetan dishes.
4.The temperature varies greatly and sunshine can be very strong, please bring jackets, sunburn cream, medicine for altitude sickness etc.
5.For avoiding the altitude sickness, please don`t do violent exercise, drink more water and rest as much as possible after sightseeing.
6.We suggest you not go outside of your hotel during the night.
7.Most of the time you will enjoy the beautiful views in the car, and the driving hours are very long in this tour.
