Qinghai-Tibetan plateau is known as the World Roof", the Third Pole of the Globe? it is the original place of many big rivers in China. Qinghai-Tibetan railway is about 1,142Km long, 960Km of which runs on the highland of more than 4,000m and 550km of it passes across the all year round frozen earth. Qinghai-Tibetan railway has 34 stops which are located at Nachitai, Tuotuo River, Mt. Tanggula pass, Amdo, Nagchu, Damsung, Yangparchen and Lhasa etc. 7 sightseeing platform are specially built for the passengers?enjoyment where the trains will stop for 10 to 30 minutes. The train can drive 160Km/hour with the most luxurious carriages equipped with the advanced facilities such as oxygen-supplying, pressure-balancing system etc. It takes about 50hours getting to Lhasa from Chengdu, you can appreciate the beautiful scenery during the daytime driving hours.

Day 1: Chengdu-Lhasa
Meet in the evening at the North Train Station of Chengdu, take T222 train (departs at about 20:36pm) for Lhasa. Overnight on the train.
Day 2: On the Train
Appreciate the scenery of Earth plateau along the railway.
Day 3: Arriving in Lhasa
The train drives on Qinghai-Tibet plateau, you can see the rare species of plants and animals of Kekexili, if you are lucky enough Tibetan antelopes can be seen running along the railway. You will drive across the pass of Mt.Tanggula which is about 5,072m, the highest place of Qinghai-Tibet railway, after that you are going to drive on the highland grassland which is a large area of pasture.Tsona lake lies between Amdo and Nagchu is the next attraction and eye feast with its crystal clear blue water. Arrive in Lhasa at the evening and go to the hotel.
Day 4: Lhasa self city tour
Lhasa urban tour attraction:
Potala Palace (RMB100), Norbulingka - the Summer Palace (RMB60), Jokhang Temple (RMB70), Barkhor Street(for free), Ramoche temple (RMB25), Drepung Monastery (RMB55) and Sera Monastery (RMB55) are all located in Lhasa urban, the taxi in Lhasa is also cheap, about RMB10 to anywhere urban, or the rickshaw at RMB3-7. Overnight in Lhasa.
Tips: If you are not interested in the Tibetan temple, one temple can make you an overall impression, and taking photography only outside of the others is a good solution. However, the Barkhor Street is worth visiting, it is the Tibetan market, the vendors sell Tibetan handcraft, souvenir and daily commodities for local people. (Meals and transportation excluded, we charge RMB 260 extra if you prefer to follow a tour group with Chineses-speaking tour guide to Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street.)
Day 5:Lhasa - Yangpachen - Namtso Lake
In the morning, drive to Yangpachen - the hot spring, see the Northern Tibet Grassland, and the Yangpachen geothermal power plant, after lunch drive to Nyainqentanglha, take photos and back Yangpachen, enjoy the hot spring (about RMB30-50, cost excluded, the swimming suit is expensive here), then go to visit Namtso Lake one of the three holy lakes in Tibet,back Lhasa, and tourists may see the night fair of Lhasa Barkhor Street,or taste the local food.
(Visiting Namtso is available only in summer and autumn.)
Day 6 :Lhasa-Shigatse
Drive to Shigatse, en route visit Yamdrok Lake, Korala Glaciers, transfer to Shigatse hotel.
Day 7:Tashilhunpo Monastery
Full day guided tour, visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, Shigatse fair, after lunch visit the Lhokar - the Tibetan granary and see the local life, back Lhasa and transfer to hotel.
Day 8:Back to Chengdu
Depart from Lhasa to Chengdu by flight, end tour.

Note:
1.Minor program changes sometimes are necessary, depending on road conditions, weather and availability of room.

4.As we travel in Tibet area where the economy is much more backward than other places, the food alternative is limited,so we suggest you order food in local restaurants available yourself or take some solid food.Most of local restaurant can only offer the simple Sichuan and Tibetan dishes.
5.All the passengers can buy the ticket from Chengdu/chongqing directly to Lhasa but they have to get down the train at Xi"ning train station and then transfer to another train from Xi"ning to Lhasa.The officials and staff of the train station will lead the passengers to the train and all the passengers will have the same seat or sleeper number....... |
